About Dr. Dessy Boneva

Dessy Boneva, MD, FACS is distinguished for her expertise in trauma surgery and teaching. Upon attaining a Doctor of Medicine, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Baltimore VA Medical Center from 2003 to 2004 and as a resident in general surgery at the University of Maryland for two years until 2006. At Dartmouth College, served as a clinical fellow and a resident in general surgery between 2006 and 2010 before heading to Johns Hopkins University. While there, Dr. Boneva was a critical care fellow and surgical critical care fellow in 2009 and 2010, as well as a shock trauma fellow at the University of Maryland until 2011. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and was notably listed as a Top Trauma Surgeon in 2020.

Today, Dr. Boneva serves as the surgery clerkship director and clinical assistant professor in the Division of Surgery at Nova Southeastern University, as well as psychology of leadership at Cornell University. Additionally, she has been a clinical professor at Florida International University since 2017 and an associate and assistant professor of surgery and attending trauma surgeon at the University of South Florida since 2011. Dr. Boneva has also served the Kendall Regional Medical Center as a core faculty member of the general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship since 2014 and trauma-attending surgeon since 2011.
